Planning your newborn photography session is an exciting journey. Here you'll find answers to the most frequently asked questions, along with everything you need to prepare for your session.
When is the best time to reserve a newborn session?
The ideal time to reserve your newborn session is during your second or third trimester. Since babies rarely arrive exactly on their due date, we schedule your session around your estimated due date and finalize the appointment once your little one is here. By planning ahead, we can ensure availability during those precious first weeks and provide a relaxed, personalized experience without the stress of last-minute scheduling. Every session is carefully prepared in advance, allowing us to create a collection of images that reflects your family's style and vision.
What is the ideal age for newborn photography?
For posed newborn portraits, the first -5–14 days- after birth are considered the ideal window. During this stage, babies tend to sleep more deeply, remain naturally curled, and are generally more comfortable throughout the session. These early days pass remarkably quickly. Tiny fingers, delicate eyelashes, soft skin, and all the beautiful little details that define the newborn stage begin to change almost immediately. Photographing your baby during this brief season allows you to preserve memories that can never truly be recreated. If your baby is older than two weeks, don't worry. Beautiful newborn portraits are still possible, and every baby is photographed according to their individual comfort and personality.
What happens if my baby arrives earlier than expected?
Every birth story is unique, and we understand that babies often choose their own arrival date. Because we accept a limited number of newborn commissions each month, we maintain flexibility within our calendar to accommodate early arrivals whenever possible. Once your baby is born, simply let us know, and we'll arrange your session at the most appropriate time. If your little one spends time in the NICU or requires additional medical care, their health will always come first. We will happily adjust your session date and photograph your baby whenever they are healthy, comfortable, and ready.
Do you provide wraps, outfits, and styling?
Absolutely. Our studio includes a carefully curated collection of luxury wraps, handcrafted bonnets, delicate headbands, timeless blankets, and beautiful accessories selected specifically for newborn portraiture. Before your session, we'll discuss your preferred colors, textures, and overall aesthetic to create a cohesive gallery that feels elegant, refined, and uniquely yours. If you have a sentimental family heirloom or a meaningful item you'd like incorporated into your portraits, we'd be delighted to include it whenever possible.
What should parents and siblings wear?
We encourage timeless, understated clothing that complements rather than distracts. Soft neutral tones, natural fabrics, and classic silhouettes create beautifully cohesive portraits that never feel dated. Creams, whites, beige, soft greys, muted earth tones, and subtle pastels photograph exceptionally well. Prior to your session, you'll receive a detailed wardrobe guide with styling recommendations to help everyone feel confident and coordinated.
How long does a newborn session last?
Most newborn sessions last between -two and three hours-. This allows plenty of time for feeding, cuddling, diaper changes, soothing, and gentle posing without ever feeling rushed. Every baby sets the pace, and we create a calm, comfortable environment where parents can simply relax while we take care of every detail. Our priority is always your baby's safety, comfort, and wellbeing throughout the entire experience.
Where will the session take place?
All newborn sessions are held in our private boutique studio, thoughtfully designed to provide a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere for growing families. The space is fully equipped with everything needed for your session, including professional lighting, carefully selected props, comfortable seating, refreshments, and a warm environment that helps keep your baby cozy throughout the experience.
When will we receive our photographs?
Your images are individually selected and meticulously hand-edited to ensure every photograph reflects the timeless quality that defines Lumière. Within approximately -two to three weeks-, you'll receive access to your private online gallery where you can view your collection and choose your favorite artwork, prints, and heirloom albums. Each image is carefully refined with attention to every detail, resulting in portraits designed to be treasured for generations.
