Find out when to book your session to feel radiant and confident.

Pregnancy is one of life’s most extraordinary seasons—a time of anticipation, transformation, and profound love. As your body changes and your baby grows, there is a small window of time when you feel your best while your bump is beautifully prominent.

One of the questions I hear most often is:

“When is the best time to schedule my maternity photos?”

The short answer: Between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy.

During this stage, your bump is beautifully defined, and you’re still comfortable enough to pose, move, and enjoy your session without feeling too tired or heavy. Your skin typically has a natural glow, and your baby’s movements are often visible, adding a wonderful element to your portraits.

Why 28–34 Weeks Is the Ideal Window

Every pregnancy is different, but there are several reasons this timeframe works beautifully for maternity portraits.

  • Your bump is prominent: Your belly is beautifully round and photographable without feeling too heavy.
  • You still feel comfortable: Most women have good energy and can move freely during this stage.
  • Your skin often glows: Increased blood flow during this time gives skin a natural, radiant appearance.
  • Baby is active: You can often feel and see baby’s movements, which photographers may be able to capture in a subtle way.
  • No risk of early labor: This window allows plenty of time before your due date, reducing the risk of scheduling conflicts.

What If I Schedule Earlier or Later?

Earlier (24–27 Weeks)

Some women choose to photograph earlier if they are carrying multiples or if their bump shows early. The portraits will simply reflect a different stage of pregnancy—one that is just as meaningful and worthy of celebration.

Later (35–38 Weeks)

Photographing after 35 weeks can be beautiful, but it’s important to listen to your body. If you’re experiencing swelling, fatigue, or discomfort, the session may feel more challenging. Always prioritize your comfort and well-being.

If you do schedule later, consider choosing a shorter session or more relaxed poses to ensure you feel at ease.

How to Prepare for Your Maternity Session

1. Choose Your Location

Whether you prefer the soft light of a studio, the golden glow of golden hour at the beach, or the peaceful atmosphere of a garden, the location sets the mood for your entire session. Together we’ll choose a setting that reflects your style and vision.

2. Plan Your Wardrobe

Flowing dresses, form-fitting gowns, and soft fabrics photograph beautifully. Consider neutral tones, earthy colors, or delicate fabrics like lace or silk. During your consultation, we’ll discuss wardrobe options and even have a small collection of gowns available for you.

3. Think About Props

Many families choose to incorporate meaningful props—ultrasound photos, baby shoes, or small accessories that hold sentimental value. These personal touches add depth and emotion to your gallery.

4. Involve Your Partner and Children

Maternity sessions are a celebration of your growing family. Partners, children, and even pets are warmly welcomed. We’ll coordinate outfits and poses to ensure everyone feels included and comfortable.

Why Booking Early Matters

Maternity photographers often have limited availability, especially during peak seasons. By booking during your second trimester, you secure your spot and eliminate the stress of last-minute scheduling. This also gives you plenty of time to plan your wardrobe, location, and styling.

I recommend reaching out as early as your second trimester—around 20–24 weeks—to reserve your date. Once your session date is confirmed, we’ll stay in touch and adjust if needed as your due date approaches.

What to Expect During Your Session

Maternity sessions typically last between 1.5 to 2 hours. This allows plenty of time for outfit changes, different poses, and capturing a variety of images without feeling rushed.

From the moment you arrive, my goal is to create a relaxed and enjoyable experience. I’ll guide you through gentle poses, capture natural interactions with your partner or children, and ensure you feel confident and beautiful throughout.

When Will You Receive Your Images?

Within approximately two to three weeks, you’ll receive access to your private online gallery. From there, you can view your collection, choose your favorite artwork, and order prints and heirloom albums.

Each image is carefully edited to reflect the timeless quality and elegance that defines Lumière Photography.

Celebrating This Beautiful Season

Pregnancy is a fleeting season, and photography allows you to preserve it forever. These images become treasured keepsakes—a reminder of the strength, beauty, and love that surrounded the arrival of your little one.

I would be honored to document this extraordinary chapter of your story.
